Sphaera Chat - The Fibonacci Sequence, Fractals and the Mandelbrot Set

Emma, BSc in Mathematics student, talks about the Fibonacci Sequence, Fractals and their link with the Mandelbrot Set

The Mandelbrot Set, one of the more famous examples of "mathematical beauty" and the Fibonacci Sequence one of the more famous sequences in mathematics, how are they linked ? Emma Lambert investigates their relationship.

The uses and applications of the Fibonacci sequence are vast, from graph theory to beautiful patterns in nature. The Mandelbrot Set, however, seems to serve a limited, yet arguably very important, purpose of showcasing the beauty and complexity of mathematics. There seems to be no reason for the two to be linked, yet that isn't the case.

This week, Emma, BSc in Mathematics from The University of Manchester, is going to talk to us about the Fibonacci Sequence, fractals and their link to the Mandelbrot Set.
